The Latest Oddie District Updates

We are working with the Building Department in Sparks to find a solution to our occupancy woes so we can open The Generator in early 2022.

What does that mean?
In October 2021, we learned that we need 6 bathrooms in order to be compliant with our 600 person occupancy for our current zoning.
(Porta potties and any kind of temporary bathroom do not count.)
Our space has three bathrooms so we needed to figure out how to either build three more or get access to additional bathrooms.

The solution?
We will utilize bathrooms that are already in the building but are not currently safely accessible. These bathrooms are in the area of the building that will house other parts of The Oddie District and that section is currently under construction. We need to make a temporary route that allows for safe passage to these bathrooms and is compliant with the fire department.

We are now working with the Sparks Fire Department, Truckee Meadows Construction and Foothills Partners to build a pathway to the additional bathrooms that is safe and fire proof with appropriate emergency exits and lighting. This requires some construction and some modification as well as installing new crash gates and things of that nature. Permits have been pulled and this work is already happening.

When will The Generator open?
Honestly, we are not 100% on that. It's the holiday season and although we are all working diligently to make this happen we still have various parts to this puzzle that are out of our hands. Once the work is complete it will be inspected by the city and they may have additional requirements and upgrades after that inspection. We are really hopeful that by the Spring of 2022 we will be open for the public and all of our artist members.

This has been a long road and we are so ready for some good news and good times with all of you. We'll be updating our website and social media and sending more newsletters so we can keep all of you informed as things change and parts of this process are completed. We know 2022 is going to be an amazing year once we just get through this last hoop.
